Tango Style As you embark on your journey in Tango you will witness many different styles of tango, Milonguero (close embrace), Salon (open embrace), Fantasia (stage/performance) three of the most common. There is not a right or wrong in this matter, rather a personal choice of how you choose to express your self, taking care that you are not infringing on other dancers space and safety . Of course ballroom or American tango is in no way the same as Argentine Tango. Having the correct technique in any dance however should be the goal of any dancer or instructor. What is dance? Creative expression threw movement to music. There are many different genres of dance. From universal ballroom, Latin, swing, hustle, club, hip hop to regional folk and ritual ceremonies. We dance, teach and perform Argentine tango exclusively. How do you learn any dance? First by learning the basics in a class or private lessons, practicing and going out to dance and have a good time. What are the basics? Some one at some time had to come up with the "Steps" or "figures," matching them to music. Then we move on to learn more "Steps," "Figures," "moves," or "styles." And then we incorporate those into what we have already learned. We practice and repeat until we are satisfied with or accomplishments. So in essence, any dance is nothing but figures! It is the choice of each individual of how and in what style, what moves they like or dislike, what "figures" that they choose to use, to be creatively expressive to music,. That is Dance. That is Tango. We do not teach "JUST FIGURES", WE TEACH AUTHENTIC ARGENTINE TANGO! Our lesson syllabus is very progressive, we believe in giving the most to our students that we can give. Always stressing technique and style, we do not spend the hour having students practice walking, they walked in the door for a lesson, we know they can walk. However, we do teach them how to walk like a tango dancer, and instruct them to practice later. If any instructor has you walk for any hour and you did not ask for a "walking class", ask for your money back and run like the wind! You work hard for your money and we work hard to give you the best possible experience and value for your dollar. We have faith in our students and leave it up to each individual to practice. We do not teach "choreography" (unless for a show), we do not teach just "figures," we give you more "elements" to ad to your basics! WE TEACH YOU HOW TO DANCE AUTHENTIC ARGENTINE TANGO, All styles! We invite anyone and everyone to attend our classes to experience for yourself the level of detail and emphasis we put on technique, while giving quality instruction and individual attention to each and every student. That we do not "just teach figures." If you have not attended our classes, please don't make a judgment call, or publicly state an opinion until you have. If you are told "he just teaches figures," ask that person if they have every attended a class with us. Most likely they have not! If you attended any workshop in your area to study with renowned instructors/ performers and have learned new "figures," to only later be discouraged from using this material by the sponsor of said workshop because it is to "showy" or "they don't dance like that is Buenos Aries" ask for a full refund and a good explanation as to why they would take your money and tell you not to use the material given from same person they promoted. If any person tells you that they don't dance like that in B.A., ask them if they have been there. I have and they dance all the styles and they all have numerous venues to do it at. |
